About the Authors

Darrell W. Clark is a partner at the Washington, D.C. firm of Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP. He joined the firm in 1995 after completing a clerkship with United States Bankruptcy Judge Barry S. Schermer. His practice focuses on the representation of creditors, debtors, committees and trustees in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 business bankruptcy cases.

Brad Lefkowitz is an Associate at Bryan Cave in Washington, D.C. His practice focuses on commercial real estate and lending transactions. He focuses his practice on commercial real estate and lending transactions. He works on matters concerning the acquisition, development,structuring, leasing and financing of commercial real estate projects, includingmultifamily housing, office buildings, regional and strip shopping centers and retail and mixed-use developments.

David Parker is a well-respected attorney in Montgomery County. In addition to real estate settlements, his other areas of concentration include tax-deferred exchanges, foreclosures and contracts of sale. He is highly visible in the industry as an author and lecturer on real estate-related issues.

Paul Pearlstein, a member of the bar since 1962, has concentrated in real estate, bankruptcy and estate work. He was the initial organizer and editor of this publication from 1995 until 2010. He has been a member of the DC Bankruptcy Rules Committee since the '80s, and was Chair for most of that time. He was a Chapter 7 Trustee in DC for 13 years. Colin Uckert is general counsel for The Shooshan Company, LLC, coordinating various legal aspects of the company's real estate development projects.  Prior to joining The Shooshan Company, Mr. Uckert was a partner in the real estate practice groups of Bryan Cave LLP and Powell Goldstein LLP representing parties in a wide range of commercial real estate transactions, including real estate finance, workouts and foreclosures.  Mr. Uckert is a frequent lecturer for continuing legal education programs and has authored many articles on advanced real estate topics.  Mr. Uckert received a BA degree, with distinction, from American University, and a JD from The College of William & Mary. 

David W. Buckley is a partner in the firm of Deso & Buckley, P.C. and has practiced law in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia since 1974.  He has represented individuals and companies in both transactional and litigation matters related to real estate, and was for two years the Chairman of the Real Property Law Committee of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. He also regularly represents clients in construction and mechanic’s lien matters.
